'End'

'End' is the finale of Joceph K's existence in the world as we know it. As a class you were presented with the final scene. In three groups, given the descriptive text, you had to bring Joseph K to his End.

Now process your ideas...Attached are photos and one filmed group....

As you can now take a step back and evaluate - what worked? what didn't? or what could be even more effective?

Consider the whole group dying as K...

Consider the whole group murdering K...

  1. i think that our version of "end" should be as long and suspencful as the script. right now its really short and although there is a lot of drama i think we can go a bit further with that and keep the audience in suspence a little bit longer rather than just taking him somewhere and killing him straight away which is what we're doing at the momment.

also i dont think anyone really captured that glimmer of hope that was done in the book and i think thats a really big part of this chapter and indeed the book, wether thats done symbolicly or directly is up for debate. one idea that my fantastical brain just had is if we have person runnning around him while hes laying on the rock or watever kind of like an angel (not to sound to corny/gay) but kind of like a guardian angel looking after him which he could only see and could be running around him...touching his hand while the other guys are around him inspecting the knife and only he could see the angel then the angel leaves and k comes back to the "real world" and gets killed...or or mabye the angel then becomes one of the guys that kills him so that who could save him is also the one who kills him thus using dramatic irony to tantilise the crowd kind of like a shakespear play.

i also think that we lacked the mystery in what we did yesterday and we definently need that seeing as its the main theme through out the whole book and our performance.

but more or less i think just length, mystery, and hope are the things missing from this scene.

  2. During class, Miss Dobson/Mrs M-C came up with the idea of everyone dying as K, which i really love because it focus's the audience on the significance of the action. I also like the idea of everyone going from killing K to becoming K as well. It could look really effective as a performance with the whole class
    :)

  3. comming up with the idea of everyone representing K and dying was a great idea as it keeps with the theme how noone is the main character we rely on each other as a cast to produce the person we are portraying. loving the play :)

  4. Each of the three groups had great ideas that worked with the script, but as Brandon noted, there was not much emotion portrayed in any of the scenes really. At the moment the End is a bit melodramatic, or even not dramatic enough; we are not using such a powerful piece of writing to our full potential.
I liked it how the third group had the audience looking down upon the murder taking place, how Isabella emerged from the drain, and Grace being distant from the K's when the murder was taking place.
If that scene was done more fluently and conjoined with some of the ideas other groups came up with (such as a person leaning over the balcony like Chloe was), the End may just work.

To enhance this scene further I believe that we could position the audience on the other side of the balcony so that they can still view Isabella's creepy drain act, and after a while do a simultaneous choreographed routine with half the class as Ks and the other as the murderers. It could be very much similar to The Tempest, when there was an entertaining 'dance-like' routine in which Ariel demonstrates her control over the Clowns and Calibans. In the End, we could have one killer standing behind a K each, and somehow portray Ks scared innocence, and the killers lack of mercy (a knife could be tossed to and fro between the killers like they do in the book), and then to end it, perhaps a person could pop up on the other side of the balcony above the fellow actors, and rip paper whilst saying what Grace said: "Like A Dog," and on each word everyone below becomes K, and dies more and more (you get the drift) on each word. For that dramatic finish, the balcony person can sprinkle the ripped shreds of paper onto the tragic scene below.
Frantic action to a complete stop.
Obviously this is just a suggestion, I am sure everyone will have more ideas to contribute!
    Thanksssssssssssssssssssssss

  5. every group presented a different and facinating representation of the scene of K's death.
i really liked how we were able to split into groups to create the same scene but in different perspective cause it allows more ideas to be thrown around so there are more options to choose from or just coorporate all the ideas created from each group that worked really effectively to present the scene to make a more powerfull piece. i also like that were actually creating and not just sitting and brainstorming the whole time to see what will work and what needs improving/emphasised on and that time pressure does do some good to make scenes so we're not wasting time.
today we began to piece all of our scenes together and as we realised it is a little messy and we need to work on transitions. another thing to concider is where the audience was going to be. i was kind of confused when we were using up the whole space in teh cultural pricient some of the times cause i wondering where we'd put the audience.
i think for the end scene, if the majority of the group is K dying..it would be more effective so the audience realises what is happening rather than just concentrating on one point.
its just up to putting everything together, practicing and memorising for everyone to know their cues to make this show reallly good :)

  7. Well seeing as we have completed and performed the end I feel the end product was really good. The initial ideas and performances done in the groups produced really inventive ideas. I felt that it was really good that we incorporated ideas from each group which made it a scene where we were all able to contribute to. The white and red feathers worked really effectively and aided in the whole mood of the scene.

Overall I think the end product fitted in really well and effectively ended the performance of The Trial
